The girls varsity bowling team traveled to Holly Lanes on Monday, February 18th to bowl in the annual Best of the Best Tournament , this is bowling’s version of Districts and the Kearsley girls have always done well in this tournament but the last 2 years have had troubles with Flushing. The tournament begins with 2 individual games for qualifying and then the field is cut to the final 8 teams. The Kearsley girls had team games of 895 and 957 to qualify #1 with a score of 1852, Flushing qualified 2nd and Lapeer was 3rd followed by Grand Blanc. The girls were led by Samantha Timm in qualifying with games of 182 and 231, other scores were Allison Eible 171, Megan Timm 160, Alexis Roof 193 and 170, Imari Blond 189 and 183, Emilea Sturk 182 and Allison Robbins 191.
Once the field was cut to 8 teams the Kearsley girls bowled against Linden the first round and Kearsley won the first round match with Baker games of 210 and 155 to Linden’s 139 & 116. The 2nd round in the final 4 Kearsley had to bowl against Lapeer and the Kearsley girls had games of 201 and 193 to Lapeer’s 166 and 173. The other side of the bracket Flushing defeated Ovid Elsie and then Grand Blanc to reach the finals for the 3rd straight year to bowl against Kearsley. The Kearsley girls won the first game 183 to 162 and exploded the final game for a 248 to 125 victory and the tournament championship. This was the 3rd day of bowling tournaments in a row and the 3rd tournament victory as the Kearsley girls had the winner in the Conference Singles Tournament on Saturday (Emilea Sturk), won the Regional Tune Up Tournament on Sunday and won the Best of the Best on Monday. The girls next competition is Regional Team event on Friday morning at 9:30am at Monitor Lanes in Bay City. The Kearsley girls will be trying to capture their 7th Regional title and a ticket to the State Finals.
