The Kearsley girls varsity bowling team traveled to Waterford, Michigan and Century Bowl on Friday, March 1st for the State Finals. The finals consisted of 8 Baker games and 2 regular games for qualifying and the Kearsley girls started qualifying strong with Baker games of 206 & 224 to start the day. They finished Baker qualifying with games of 157, 220, 162, 202, 195 and 172 and then had regular games of 906 and 937 to qualify #1 overall with a score of 3381. Tecumseh qualifed #2 with a score of 3241 and Carleton Airport was #3 with a score of 3184 and Charlotte was #4 with a score of 3091. After qualifying the field was cut to the top 8 teams and match play began with 2 Baker games and 1 individual team game with total pins to determine the winner. After qualifying #1 overall the Kearsley girls had a first round match with Coldwater who qualified #8 overall. Kearsley started the match with Baker games of 184 & 204 to Coldwater’s 135 and 133 and with a commanding lead, did not let up as they won the individual game 927 to 867 over Coldwater to move into the final 4. In the match against Coldwater high scores were Imari Blond with a 225 and Allison Eible with a 190 game. In the final 4 against Charlotte the Kearsley girls began the match with Baker games of 175 & 181 to Charlotte’s 176 and 189. The Kearsley girls were down 9 pins going into the individual game but about half way through the individual game the Kearsley girls took control of the game and outscored Charlotte by a final total of 976 to Charlotte’s 899. High scores for the Kearsley girls that round against Charlotte were Alexis Roof with a 222 game, Imari Blond with a 213 game and Samantha Timm with a 193 game. With the win against Charlotte the Kearsley girls were headed to the finals for the 6th straight year. This year’s opponent in the finals was a familiar one as they had to take on Tecumseh for the 2nd year in a row and the 4th time overall in the finals. The match began with Tecumseh winning the first Baker game 185 to 182 and then Kearsley winning the 2nd Baker game 173 to 168. The Kearsley girls had a 2 pin advantage heading into the individual game and going into the 6th frame of the individual game the Kearsley girls were trailing by almost 60 pins but the girls would not be denied as they turned it on in the end when needed and pulled out a 997 to 886 victory in the individual game and the total final pinfall was Kearsley 1352 to Tecumseh 1239. High Scores for Kearsley were Imari Blond with a 223 game, Samantha Timm with a 221 game and Allison Eible with a 205 game. For Kearsley this was the 6th straight state championship and the 7th overall which has also included a state runner up in 2010., so 8 of the last 9 years the Kearsley girls have been in the finals, just an incredible run!
