The Kearsley Varsity girls traveled to Bay City’s Monitor Lanes for the annual Bangor John Glenn Holiday Tournament on Saturday, December 15th. The tournament features a lot of the top talent from Division 1 & Division 2 across the state so it is a good gauge to see how the Lady Hornets stack up against the competition. The Lady Hornets came out strong in qualifying and strung together team games of 1006, 913 and 957 and then had Baker games of 183, 184, 241 and 189 for a final total pinfall of 3673 for qualifying. The total was more than 500 pins of 2nd Place Lake Shore. Qualifying 3rd was South Lyon, 4th was Sterling Heights Stevenson, 5th was Battle Creek Pennfield , 6th was Swartz Creek, 7th was Davison and 8th was Bay City Western.
In the first round of match play Kearsley had to bowl against Tawas who qualified 16th overall and Kearsley came out with Baker games of 174 & 159 to Tawas’s 130 and 114. Kearsley then moved into the final 8 and had a match up with Bay City Western. The Lady Hornets won the first Baker game 200 to 175 but Bay City Western won the 2nd Baker game 212 to 176 so the match moved to a tie breaker 3rd game that Bay City Western ended up winning 200 to 169 and eliminating the #1 seed Lady Hornets. For the day the Lady Hornets finished 5th overall and had a great day qualifying. Scores in individual games for the Lady Hornets were: Emilea Sturk 168 and 170, Allison Eible 243 and 166, Megan Timm 228, 174 and 176, Alexis Roof 182 & 209, Imari Blond 185, 235 and 233, Hannah Simms 192 & 169 and Samantha Timm 146. 2 of the Kearsley girls were named to the All Tournament Team as Imari Blond led all girls in the tournament with a 653 and Megan Timm finished 5th overall for the girls with a 578 series.
The Varsity girls will be back in action on Sunday, December 16th at 9:30am at Monitor Lanes for the Bay City Western Baker’s Dozen Tournament.
