The Kearsley Varsity Girls traveled to Monitor Lanes in Bay City for Bay City Western Baker’s Dozen on Sunday, December 16th. The Lady Hornets have won this tournament 5 out of the last 6 years and they came out ready to defend the title today. The tournament consisted of 13 Baker games for qualifying against 13 different schools and if you won the game you received 20 bonus pins. The Lady Hornets went 12-1 against all other schools in the tournament and led qualifying by 196 pins over 2nd place Flushing. The Lady Hornets had Baker games of 220, 178, 233, 244, 186, 180, 180, 187, 262, 226, 235, 223 and 156 for a total of 2710 for the 13 Baker games. But as we have seen before qualifying #1 doesn’t mean you are going to win the tournament. The Lady Hornets drew the Cadillac Vikings in the 1st round of match play and defeated Cadillac in a 2 game Baker match to move into the final 6. In the next game of match play the Lady Hornets bowled against the Lapeer Lightining and the Hornets won the first game 168 to 158 but Lapeer came out strong the 2nd game and bowled a 197 game to Kearsley’s 178 and the total final pinfall was Lapeer 355 to Kearsley 346 and the Lady Hornets were sent home from the tournament. Lapeer went on to lose the next round to Davison and then Davison upended the girls from Flushing to win the tournament. The next competition for Kearsley will be on Wednesday, December 19th at Colonial Lanes in Flushing against Owosso starting at 6pm.
