The Kearsley Varsity Girls participated in the 7th annual Lila Furnish Classic Tournament at Capitol Bowl in Owosso on Sunday, January 7th. The tournament was a 12 game Baker qualifier on the Regional and state final oil pattern “The Randy Allen” pattern. The Kearsley girls started the day a little slow with Baker games of 194, 151, 150 and 169 and they were sitting in 4th place after 4 games but they turned it on and finished with games of 210,189,183,184,188,215,196, and 171 for a 2200 total pinfall and a 1st place finish after qualifying. In the first match game set Kearsley had to bowl Swartz Creek who qualified 8th and the Kearsley girls started a little slow with a 161 game to Swartz Creeks, 144 but the Kearsley girls turned it on the 2nd game with a 215 to 126 victory as they moved into the final 4. In the semi finals Kearsley had to bowl a very good Lake Orion team but the Kearsley girls never gave them a chance as they had Baker games of 202 & 236 to Lake Orion’s 167 & 144 and the Kearsley girls moved into the finals. In the finals the Kearsley girls had to bowl division 1 Macomb Dakota who always has a strong program but the Kearsley girls never gave them a chance as they started the match with 6 strikes in a row and finished the first game with a 277 actual to Dakota’s 143, the 2nd game the Kearsley girls had a 213 actual to Dakot’s 149. The 277 Baker game is the highest Baker game the Kearsley girls have ever bowled. This is also the 5th straight year the Kearsley girls have won this tournament in Owosso. Next competition is Saturday, January 13th at Holly Lanes against Flushing. Congratulations Ladies!
