The Kearsley boys headed to Monitor Lanes in Bay City looking for their 5th straight regional title and 7th consecutive trip to the State Finals. The Hornets came out of the 6 baker game portion struggling but still finding themselves in 3rd position. In the first of 3 team games Seth Varner led the way with a 203 en-route to their first game of 919. The 183 average per man dropped Kearsley to 5th place on the outside looking in at their goal of States. Junior Kyle Langworthy went to assistant coach Bobby Countryman and suggested they go back to their usual starting lineup that everyone would be more comfortable. The change was made and the suggestion proved to be correct when the Hornets fired their high game of 940 moving them into the 3rd position with a 115 pin lead on Gaylord going into the last game. In that last game Gaylord shot a 927 wwith Kearsley struggling to hang on right next to them. In the 9th frame 4 of 5 of the Hornets struck or spared keeping them in the hunt. Justin Todd stepped up in the 10th frame and struck locking up the Hornets bid to yet another State Final. In the final game Kearsley shot 879 allowing them to hang on to their 3rd position over Gaylord by 67 pins. The Hornets travel to Superbowl in Canton Friday looking for their 3rd State Championship in the last 5 years.
