Josh Roberts rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns as Kearsley defeated Southwestern Academy 21-20. Down 20-14 at the half, a Roberts score on the first play of the 4th quarter tied the game and Evan Flood’s extra point provided the winning margin. Southwestern had the ball with two minutes remaining but the Kearsley defense stood tall and the Knights were unable to move the ball beyond their own 25 yard line.
Kearsley scored on the opening possession of the game on a 8-yard run by Josh Roberts. They took a 14-0 later in the 1st quarter on a 7-yard pass from Brenden Evenson to Christian Lints on a 4th and 1 play. Southwestern came back to score 20 unanswered points in the 1st half on an interception return for a touchdown, a return of a missed FG and 20-yard reception.
Hunter Bailey also rushed for 48 yards from the quarterback position. Anton Webster led the defense with 2 interceptions and 3 solo tackles. Sophomore Reese Harburn led the defense with 5 solo tackles and 3 assists. Jason Clark had 4 tackles while Richard Bennett, and Brandon Byczynski each had 3.
The Hornets travel to Goodrich next week to face the 1-0 Martians.
